CTIS has been developed on the basis of experience gathered from various international projects and from HHLA Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (Hamburg Port and Logistics Corporation), Hamburg’s biggest and most advanced terminal operator and its terminals. Real-time data overviews, EDI Electronic Data Interchange (EDIFACT/BAPLIE, CODECO, etc.) assist to improve the terminal performance. Pre-advised container data, e.g. from customers and agents, will reduce the manual input to a minimum. Modern technologies such as the internet or radio data transmission can be easily integrated into CTIS and help make workflows and procedures more transparent. The intuitive Windows-based Graphic User Interface provides the user with a real-world environment, helping manage the container yard, equipment and resources more efficiently. CTIS has been developed with the support of modern software development tools. Client/server technology brings computing power to the workstation. As the backbone of integration, it facilitates distributed computing and access to the database. Overview on the CTIS Modules
A well-selected set of programs ensures quick and efficient gate procedures and a high security level. The gate module administers paperless pre-arrivals and bookings by means of EDI or through the client's own online access. click to enlarge Vessel Call and Berth Planning Any vessel call will be stored with related data and arrival and departure times. For the proper vessel operation, technical ship data can be maintained as well as the schedules with the respective destination ports. For berth planning, the module provides a graphical berth view. Many terminal clients receive their arrival and departure reports automatically by means of EDI. A Terminal Performance Report can be created on the basis of operative data including crane performances and considering operative interruptions for the calculation of net and gross performances per crane in units/TEU and shift. click to enlarge The CTIS Yard Planning Module represents an advanced approach to yard planning objectives: optimising yard space and minimising yard equipment utilisation. Real-time monitoring of container handling improves control and can avoid inefficient yard restows. The use of a graphic user interface improves planning productivity and overall accuracy. click to enlarge All executable jobs are controlled in the Job Control Module and transferred to the terminal equipment in predefined sequences. For the yard reorganization and house-keeping activities specific graphical yard planning functions are available. click to enlarge For ship stowage planning purposes, CTIS is connected to the STOWMAN system supplied by Interschalt/SEACOS. The system is directly connected with CTIS’ database and shows the ship and its bays in full graphic mode. The system is approved by all major classification companies (e.g. Lloyds Register) to be used for ship stability calculation. The crane-split module supports the planning of container ship stowage with several portainers at the same time. Loading sequences are received from the yard planning module, and IMDG segregation onboard is automatically checked by the system. The EDIFACT BAPLIE interface in/out forms part of STOWMAN. click to enlarge The Rail Module assists the planning, loading, and discharging of trains. It provides similar powerful functionality as the Gate Module and - in addition - allows the planning and control of trains as well as their criteria of wagons. CTIS as stand-alone system for rail terminals has already been installed at several rail container depots in the hinterland. click to enlarge Empty Depot Planning and Administration The Empty Depot Module supports the planning and operating of empty containers at the terminal. Optionally it can be connected with HPC's Container Repair System CRIS, and CTIS is used also as a stand-alone solution for depot operators. The CFS Module administers and supports stripping and stuffing activities. Loading lists and tally sheets are generated and can be printed. Cargo details are shown on cargo item level. Customs Authorities and Customer Access Individual customs requirements can be covered by CTIS. In some ports CTIS is used by the customs as its own information system. But also customers (shipping companies and agents) can have access to their own data on CTIS. Therefore HPC uses either a WEB based account with CITRIX (Gateway) or information can directly be retrieved via the WEB. A fully integrated EDI-interface is part of the CTIS option pack. Supported by the CTIS Access Library, incoming and outgoing EDI messages are processed in direct communication with third party systems. click to enlarge A report generator gives access to the whole database. Different statistics, graphic reports and lists can be designed and defined by the user. SQL statements are automatically created. Frequently used reports can be individually filed and integrated with their own specific icon in a Windows program group. Repeating queries and reports can be filed and traced by individual requests on the desktop The CTIS database can also download data to MS-Excel. Several completed report structures are already available.
Radio data terminals can be integrated at any convenient workplace on the technical basis of 2.4 GHz direct sequence spread spectrum.
